This informational presentation and workshop will focus on the use of arts integration and literacy in a Kindergarten through Second Grade multiage learning environment at Hartland Fine Arts Leadership Academy (HFALA) in Hartland, WI. In a partnership with Drama for Schools (UT-Austin), HFALA teachers and students focus on building academic, artistic, and affective skills through a variety of arts integration approaches. Through teacher voices, this session will share the successes, challenges, and lessons learned during the first three years of a new arts integrated innovative charter school. Presenters will specifically focus on the alignment of drama-based instruction within their literacy curriculum. To begin the informational presentation, facilitators will model key arts integrated strategies that define the learning community at HFALA.
